EC-CTA Fisheries Cooperation Bulletin
For three years the European Commission published an information bulletin on fisheries with the cooperation of leaders of fishing and aquaculture projects and with the help of its readers. Its obvious success - gauged by the enormous growth in its readership - was in no small way due to the energy and enthusiasm of its founder, Cornelia Nauen, the principal secretary responsible for fisheries. But alongside growth came production and financial difficulties. The European Commission and CTA, whose mandate is to disseminate technical information, decided to pool their energies and expertise, and as a result the bulletin has become a more professional publication. A new format has been designed and new contributors found. The first issue of this new style publication came out in March 1992. It focussed on communication and the circulation of fisheries information, but also included news of current projects and other activities, recommended reading and notices of meetings and training courses. The issue contains articles on getting the most from catches, small-scale fisheries in West Africa, the processed fish trade in the same region, a list of FAO publications on fishing, and the role of ICLARM (International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management). The bulletin has 32 pages and comes out three times a year in both English and French, with each original article translated into the other language. Some articles from Latin America are also published in Spanish. The editorial team would be pleased to receive contributions from readers, whether in the form of letters containing comments and suggestions, or more structured articles. C Nauen, Editor in Chief.
