Small tractors in the developing world

In recent times, the tractor has become the most important piece of mechanical equipment on the farm in both industrialized nations and the developing countries. Although 35-50kW7 48-68hp tractors have emerged as the standard for soil tillage and transportation, most smallscale farming enterprises in the developing world cannot justify their use in terms of hours used. Now tractors of 26kW/ 35hp, similar to those in use in Europe some decades ago, have become popular in Third World countries. Small four-wheeled tractors for the Tropics and sub-Tropics whose preparation and publication CTA has helped to finance, analyzes the past and assesses the Future contributions of small and simpIe tractors towards rural and industrial development.
