ISNAR study
A two-year study to examine and analyze the national agricultural research systems (NARS) of 50 small countries (40 of them in the ACP group), is to be conducted by a research team from the International Service for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR). The economies of all the countries selected for the overall study are heavily agricultural and per capita incomes are low. The ISNAR team will look into the constraints on research that small countries must face by virtue of their size as well as some of the characteristics they can exploit to their advantage. In-depth case studies of seven countries and overviews of three developing country regions are also being launched as part of the project. The case study countries are Fiji, Honduras, Jamaica, Lesotho, Mauritius, Sierra Leone and Togo. The regions are the Caribbean, West Africa and the South Pacific. The case studies and overviews will provide a pool of specific information from which the researchers can distill guidelines for NARS leaders in small countries. The guidelines will suggest systematic ways to plan, organize and manage agricultural research. ISNAR Laan Van Nieuw Oost Indi?33 - 2593 BM The Hague THE NETHERLANDS
