The International Institute of Rural Reconstruchon (IIRR) in Cavite, the Philippines, has produced trainer's kits on regenerative agriculture and biointensive gardening. 'Regenerative Agricultural Technologies' and 'The Bio-Intensive Approach to Family Food Gardens' come in 8 x 11 inch folders, containing specific materials that can be used to advise, instruct and promote. They are in English, and contain clear diagrams, 'how-to' illustrations, techniques, explanations, considerations' concepts and procedures. Many are in simple outline form, and others explain and clarify advantages and disadvantages with reminders and cautions. 'Big-Intensive Approaches to Family Food Gardens' includes information on preparation; collecting and storing seeds; pest control; watering; root distribution; human nutrition; crop planning and companion planting; composting; organic fertilizers and mulches; fencing; and certain vegetables. 'Regenerative Agricultural Techniques' covers in simple terms, the whole cycle, from planning through planting and pest control, and animal husbandry. These strategies have been successfully employed in the Philippines, especially in the famine-stricken province of Negros Occidental, where more than 28,000 bio-intensive gardens have been planted since 1986. These kits, with adaptations, are also being used in training programmes in Ghana, Kenya, Thailand, Papua-New Guinea and Guatemala. 'Regenerative Agricultural Techniques', price US$13. 'Bio-lntensive Gardening' price US$7. Available from: IIRR 1775 Broadway NY10019 USA
