Discovery and Innovation

A new multidisciplinary journal aims to gather into a single forum information concerning the wide-ranging and scattered research and development efforts taking place throughout the continent of Africa. 'Discovery and Innovation' is a quarterly journal, published by the African Academy of Sciences and the Third Word Academy of Sciences. It is intended to serve as a mechanism to help the African scientific community to share information and 'grow strong in quality and critical mass' It will also provide a focal point, it is hoped for scientists and policy-makers outside the continent who are working on similar problems. The topics to be covered include: basic sciences, engineering and technology, applied sciences (including agriculture), ecology, traditional African science and technology, social and human sciences, and interfaces with social sciences. The areas of concern within Africa with which it will be specifically concerned are: endemic and tropical diseases; drought, desertification and reafforestation; the oceans and the earth sciences; agricultural development for food, industrial raw materials and agro-industries; natural resources, including minerals and their exploitation; tropical and sub-tropical eco-systems; energy; tropical climate and environment; science and industrial policy human origins and behaviour; ethical issues in science and technology training and education; frontiers of the natural sciences, mathematics, and social sciences.
