Post-harvest losses

Reducing post-harvest losses in perishable crops (fruits, vegetables, roots, tubers, nuts, spices and beverage crops) can be seen as a priority in the campaign to maximize the Third World's potential for self sufficiency. PIPIC (Postharvest Institute for Perishables Information Centre) runs a specialized information centre as well as providing assistance for developing countries through technical aid. It currently helps more than 1000 people in 123 countries and its services are free to citizens of developing countries. There are nearly 11,000 documents in the PIPIC collection, including journal articles, technical reports, extension publications and a number of unpublished research descriptions from around the world all relating to the reducion of post-harvest losses. Materials already in the collection can be supplied in photocopy or microfiche form, and requests for relevant material not held at PIPIC will be met if possible Other PIPIC services include providing bibliographies to individuals on request, publishing major bibliographies on matters of world-wide interest and consulting on the design of other libraries and information centres.
