Stoves for every taste
The variety of improved cookstoves on the market increases each year. Different materials, uses and energy sources now enable people to choose the model most appropriate for their needs. Large-scale stoves designed for communal use have now appeared in Burkina Faso where they are made of banco or concrete, and in Gambia where they are made of metal. Both the Brini stove found in Niger and the Noflie stove in Gambia use briquets made of compressed peanut shells, while attention is being given in Senegal to the use of peat moss. Research is also continuing in several countries on ceramic stoves in order to diversify their use and improve their quality. Several models made by local potters have begun to be distributed.
