Sheep production

Solutions for improving the situation of poor farmers must be relevant to their socio-economic conditions and environment. Because research has shown that they are more able to concentrate on sheep breeding, this type of animal husbandry has been the subject of several recent rural development programmes. In fact, sheep breeding has always been an important aspect of the rural economy of many tropical and sub-tropical countries. Only recently, however, have scientists begun to study sheep breeding within this framework. In order to reinforce such efforts, R.M. Gatenby, who has long been involved in research on animal production, has prepared a comprehensive overview of sheep production and health, including socio-economic aspects. Gatenby. R.M. (1986).
