Better tractor wheels

The National Institute of Agricultural Engineering at Silsoe, UK, is trying to develop tractor wheels that can be used efficiently in the slippery conditions of paddy fields. A paddy field has been constructed at Silsoe and scientists are planning to build on the work which has already led to the development of open-lugged cage wheels; these have been effective in reducing soil compaction of soft cultivated soils in Britain. The Institute says that it hopes that the result will be more and cheaper rice for developing countries'.
