Time for something different: putting markets to the service of the forest poor

This article describes opportunities to achieve both conservation and poverty alleviation goals. The goals, held by local, national and international groups, present a new agenda for achieving these goals and call for new and heightened attention by development planners, industry, conservation groups and governments, as well as groups of low-income producers, particularly on developing countries. This paper also describes and analyzes the potentials and demonstrates the feasibility of the goals with real world cases of community forest businesses and innovative policies and business partnerships.
