Index Based Livestock Insurance (IBLI) Marsabit Household Survey

16 sub-locations from the 47 in Marsabit District at baseline survey time (2009) were purposively selected for inclusion in this survey. The selection process was aimed at ensuring that the sample represents a broad variation of livestock production systems, agro-ecologies, market accessibility, and ethnic composition but it means that the sample is not necessarily representative of the population of Marsabit District. Rosters of the households living in eash sub-location were developed mannually. Households were then stratified according to livestock holdings and a random stratified sample was selected according to relative sublocation population. Within sublocation, an equal number of individuals were selected from each of the three strata.
