Digitalization of extension data collection for climate risk management by the Ministry of Agriculture of Costa Rica

In 2019 the Alliance Bioversity-CIAT combined two Open-Source software (FormShare and Open Data Kit) to create a digital solution for the Ministry of Agriculture of Costa Rica to manage the impacts of drought. The solution allowed the Ministry to collect vulnerability indicators using mobile phones. It was the first attempt of the Ministry to move to digital data collection. Since 2020 the Ministry runs all their agricultural census using ODK and FormShare effectively digitizing all their data collection.
