Trade integration and production sharing: A characterization of Latin American and Caribbean countries’ participation in regional and global value chains

This document combines information from input-output tables with trade data to provide new evidence on Latin American and the Caribbean countries’ gross forward participation in international production networks (i.e., as exporters of intermediate products that are incorporated into other countries’ exports). The data show a limited insertion into extra-regional value chains (with the main exception of Mexico), as well as significantly lower levels of intra-regional production integration than countries in other regions. However, both extra and intra-regional linkages vary greatly across countries.
