Presencia y parasitismo de Pratylenchus zeae en caña de azúcar en Panamá con indicaciones sobre la susceptibilidad relativa de algunos cultivares

Single sugar cane plants ev. D-4502 were greenbonse-groun in 20-cm plastic pots with soil inoculated with 0, 19, 26, 54 and 109 Pratylenchus zeae per 50 cc soil After 6 weeks, a highly significant negative correlation between initial population of P. zeae and dry weight of tops was ford. Top weight reduction in relation to non-inoculated controls ranged from 9.5 10 648 per cent. In a field micro-plot experiment with the same sugarcane cultivar, plot, populations of P zese were adjusted lo 0, 20, 30, 34 and 43 nematodes per 50 ec soil. After 10 weeks, a highly significant difference in number of shoots between nonincubated controls and innoculated treatments was found. No difference was found among inoculated treatments. After 10 months, average yield loss was above 25 per cent for inoculated treatments, although differences were not statistically significant because of a drainage gradient affecting differentially plants within the same block.
