Power Sector Planning in LAC Countries

This note is a picture about the situation of the planning models in Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) and the discussion of the main challenges they will be facing with the innovation behind the process of energy transition. Planning is a key activity of the power sector in LAC, where 18 countries have laws and/or regulation defining it. The methodology is quite diverse, but they all struggle to deal with innovation and potential changes in the consumers’ side behavior. Improving and adapting power planning activities in LAC are central to smooth the transition in each country. I It is also important that technicians and policymakers take into account the limits of the models used when thinking about the future.
