Developing Economies as Toyota Production Systems: Why the Analogy Makes Sense, How It Can Inform Industrial Policy

This essay explores the governance mechanisms by which an industrial policy based on Toyota Production System (TPS) principles can learn from, collaborate with and ultimately help transform the context of the economic actors without being captured by them. This working paper was prepared for the Latin America/Caribbean and Asia/Pacific Economics and Business Association (LAEBA)'s 2nd Annual Meeting held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on November 28th-29th, 2005.
