Особенности поведения и питания сеголетков шпрота в Балтийском море

The feeding pattern and daily variations in the feeding intensity of 0-group Baltic sprat of different size groups have been investigated for the years 1978-1985. It has been noted that the year-to-year feeding pattern and intensity of young sprat differed. The stomach content indices of sprat are decreasing with the increase of the fish size. The best feeding activity of 0-group sprat was noted in the years when Temora prevailed in the ration of the fish that is likely to be caused by the calorific value of the former. Though the lesser amount of food is consumed, the physiological states of fish were good. The daily feeding intensity in the 0-group sprat varies. The bulk of food is consumed when fish keep in shoals. With the dispersion of the shoals, the young sprat stop feeding and begin to digest the food consumed. The maxima in the stomach contents are observed in the evening (8-11 p.m.) and minima – in the morning (5 a.m.).
