Gross primary production of phytoplankton in Van Phong bay, Khanh Hoa province.

Based on data set of GPP in the period of 2004-2013 , characteristics of gross primary production (GPP) were discussed in the rela tion to chlorophyll-a and the vertical light extinction coefficient. GPP in Van Phong bay was strongly varied in spatial and temporal, but there was no significant difference between dry and rainy seasons. The varia tion of GPP was significantly contributed by phytoplankton growth a nd vertical light extinction coefficient. Efficiency of phytoplankton assimilation for carbon in dry season was higher than that in rainy season, an d this value at surface layer was higher than that at bottom layer. In the term of spatial distribution, integrated GPP increased from the shallow waters to deep waters. In annual cycle, the monthly average of integrated GPP was 10 69.15 - 2205.05 mgC/m 2 /day in outer part of Van Phong bay and 696.19 - 14 35.85 mgC/m 2 /day in Ben Goi waters. The variation of GPP was re sulted from nutrient sources supporting from economic activitie s within the coastal areas
