Hábitat e historia de vida de Pachycheles laevidactylus Ortmann, 1892 (Crustacea, Anomura, Porcellanidae) en Mar del Plata, Argentina.

The size frequency distribution, size at maturity, relative growth, heteroquelia, fecundity, reproductive effort, habitat structure and vertical distribution of Pachycheles laevidactylus were analyzed in the natural substrates of Playa Grande, Mar del Plata, Argentina (Lat. 38° 02' S, Long: 57° 31' W) from April to June of 2005. The size of males ranged between 0,675 and 9,3 mm, while the females between 1,07 and 10,65 mm. The density of organisms varied significantly between months and strata. Individuals were not detected in the upper strata, possibly due to the drying, and the highest densities were observed in the lower strata associated to a better protection of waves. The morphometry of chelae did not show differences between sexes. Females showed a larger abdomen than male. The number of eggs was positively correlated with the size of ovigerous females. The reproductive effort was 5,03+/-1,94% of dry weights. The population structure of P. laevidactylus was explained on the orientation of substrates, size of the mussels, availability of space under the mussels, time of immersion of the substrate, algal cover and resistance to drying, temperature and availability of dissolved oxygen in the water for young, adults and embryos.
