Composición y distribución del fitoplancton durante la prospección sísmica en la costa ecuatoriana, diciembre de 2008

This work includes the composition and distribution of phytoplankton in the coastal region. For this purpose were established 23 stations on three regions and six sections divided from the northern region of Esmeraldas to the south of Puerto Bolívar, this work was carried out at the Research Vessel Orión in december 2008. The greater diversity of the phytoplankton community in the surface layer was observed in the Central Region, Specifically in section 4 with a total of 84 species, highlighting the dominant species of diatoms as Rhizosolenia stolterfothii, Thalasssiosira subtilis, R. imbricata, Proboscia alata, Chaetoceros affinis, and in the group there were abundant dinoflagellates Gonyaulax poledra and Goniodoma polyedricum, characteristics of the coastal region. Diatoms were dominant and in lower concentrations were observed dinoflagellates coccolitofóridos, silicoflagellates, cyanobacterias and tintinnidos. Most cell biomass was recorded in the Central Region (Section 3), located in the E-9 and E-12 in the surface layer, respectively.
