Bottom fauna development in Plyavinyas Reservoir during the first years of its existence

The results of zoobenthic changes in the Plyavinyas Reservoir (Latvia) in the earliest years of its existence (1968-1970) are given. Zoobenthos of the Plyavinyas Reservoir descends from the upper river developed at the expence of the organisms that formely inhabited this part of the river and its tributaries. The deep-water parts of the reservoir are the most productive. The formation of benthic fauna of the Plyavinyas Reservoir takes place according to the general scheme of fauna formation in the reservoirs of the planes of the temperate latitude of Europe.
