Comparative characteristics of living conditions, feeding and growth of salmon young stages in Latvian rivers

The material on the biology of young stages of salmon (Salmo salar) in the main Latvian salmon rivers - the Daugava, Salaca, Gauja and Venta rivers and in some of their tributaries was collected during the period 1960-1967. The results of comparative investigation of feeding and growth of young salmon are presented. The food supply and living conditions of different populations were estimated. The behaviour of young salmon in natural conditions was described. For characterization of the biotopes of salmon nursery areas in the rivers a detailed list of salmon food organisms was produced.
