The study of catch and CPUE of Kilka fishes in Mazandaran Province (1996-2000)
Kilka is one of the important and commercial fishes in the Caspian Sea and also in the Iranian waters. In this study, the catch and CPUE data collected from Mazandaran province waters during 1996-2000 were compared and analyzed. The results indicated a significant difference due to CPUE in different years. The fishing operations were carried out during night-time with duration of 7.78 to 8.22 hours. The maximum catch with 42.8% of total catch were caught in October, November and December; and on the other hand the minimum catch (2697 tons) was determined in June. There were a significant difference among the means of catch and CPUE in different months. The CPUE of Amirabad landing (554.2 kg/h) was more than Babolsar landing (P <0.000) but the means of effort and catch of each vessel in Babolsar were more than Amirabad (P<0.000). Comparing among different years showed that the least annual catch of each vessel was occurred in 1999-2000 (499401 kg).
