Culturing milkfish Chanos chanos (Forsskal, 1775) in earthen ponds (Tiyab)

The possibility of culturing Milk fish in southern Iran (Hormozgan Province) was investigated. The fries, caught from Shoor River (30 km east for Bandar Abbas) with surrounding net (25m long, 2m high), were transfered to concrete ponds and fed with commercial carp food pellet. The results of the survey revealed that, the growth of Milk fish is very fast; the mean body weight after 7 months was 450 gr. The best period for farming Milk fish starts in March and ends in October.
