The first record of Exopalaemon styliferus (Crustacean, Decapods, Palaemonidae) from Iran

An unidentified species of Palaemonidae was observed in the downstream of Bahmanshir River in 2008. We caught 472 specimens of the fauna and used FAO species identification sheets for species identification. Some of the specimens were also transferred to Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece for final taxonomic confirmation. As a result, we could confirm for the first time the presence of the freshwater shrimp Exopalaemon styliferus (Milne-Edwards, 1840) belonging to family palaemonidae from Iran. This species has been recorded from the north coasts of Borneo and Indonesia westward through Thailand and India to Pakistan and from Iraq and Kuwait waters. Our finding extends current knowledge of the global distribution of E. styliferus.
