Caracterización morfométrica del camarón de salmuera (Artemia), de Cuba

Populations of Artemia from two Cuban salterns [El Real, Camagüey (CM) and Frank País, Guantánamo (CGA)], where evaluated to determine systematic position and possibilities to be used in aquaculture. Size of hydrated and decapsulated cysts, average corion width, nauplii size, as well as morphometric measurements in 100 adult males and females were determined for each population. Results were compared with information from six populations of Artemia, using complete linkage and Euclidean distances. Statistical differences were found between the two studied populations that could be due differences in climate conditions, nevertheless both belong to the superspecies A. franciscana. Nauplii from Cuban populations had small body size, between 401 and 421 μm, which is suitable for aquaculture purposes.
