Population Studies of the Blue Crabs of the Galveston Bay System

A major peak of apparent abundance of small blue crabs occurred in tertiary bays in the fall of 1963. Sampling indicated that sex ratios of juveniles were stable at each salinity level, while adults showed greater variation. All but 9 of 18 Gulf crabs (Callinectes danae) were collected in salinities over 20 ppt. Tagging results are discussed and suggestions to improve the experiments are offered.
