The status of the Pacific sardine resource and its management

The Pacific sardine fishery has declined from a catch ofalmost 8 hundred-thousand tons in the nineteen thirties torelative insignificance at present. This decline was primarilydue to the decline of the northern subpopulation.Scientists feel that the only remedial measure which wouldbe effective is a complete ban on sardine fishing in California and northern Baja California.
