On the annual variations of the volume transport between Cape Town and the Antarctica.

The oceanographic observation data obtained during the Japanese Antarctic Research Expeditions from 1966 (7th) to 1974 (15th) were used for calculation of the volume transport between Cape Town and the Antarctica. The transport values of 86×106m3/sec to 139 ×106m3/sec relative to the 2500 decibar level were calculated as to the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC). Concerning the ACC, the patterns of geostrophic velocity are classified into two types, A and B. The portions of maximum velocity of the ACC are found located at 42°S-43°S in A type and around 50°S in B type.
