Investigation of the physiological status of sprat by the indicators of accumulation of reserve substances in the summer of 2017

We studied the content of total lipids in the body of the Mediterranean sprat Sprattus sprattus phalericus Risso from the Black Sea during the feeding season in 2017. The data obtained were compared with the results of long-term observations. It was revealed that in May–August of 2017, the conditions for feeding and fish fattening were not as optimal as in the previous years; from August to September 2017, the accumulation of lipids in the body of fish proceeded at high rates exceeding the long-term values. Favorable conditions for the accumulation of lipids created by the end of the feeding period are thought to have ensured the maturation of sexual products and qualitative spawning in 2018.
