On the use of broodstock breeders in the artificial reproduction of sturgeons for obtaining juveniles at the sturgeon farms of the Azov Sea Basin

The effect of broodstock management and living conditions on the fish-breeding potential of females used for artificial reproduction in order to replenish the natural populations of sturgeon fish species is considered. Biotechnological methods, used to maintain broodstock breeders, should be improved. Observance of all biotechnological parameters of fry production and rearing them to the stage of their release into a natural water body has a positive effect on the amount of viable juveniles being recruited; to control and observe the biotechnology of keeping and feeding the sturgeon breeders between spawning seasons is important as well. The technical equipment of sturgeon farms also affects the quality of reproductive products during the period of hormonal stimulation and during retention of the breeders in the spawning period. Studies on the effectiveness of work with broodstock breeders have been conducted in the Azov-Kuban and Azov-Don Regions, and, for these areas, the factors, affecting the juvenile recruitment, were both of subjective and general nature.
