Investigation on by-Catch of sturgeon fishery in the Caspian Sea

Determination by catch composition of sturgeon nets is important in fishing of sturgeon in the Caspian Sea. Therefore, catching data of sturgeon species was collected in Gillan and Gholestan fishing areas during 2001-2002 . Collected data was analyzed using Quatropro, Excell and Statgrafic statistical software. According to this study, in the Gillan and Gholestan, Huso huso and Acipenser stellatus comprised 35% and of total sturgeon catch, respectively. A. persicus, A. guldenstadti and A. nudiventris constituted 16.4 % , 44.3 % and 3.8 % of total sturgeon catch in the Gillan. In the Gholestan these are 720/0, 16% and 0.9%, respectively The average age of Huso huso, A. persi , A. nudiventris, A. guldenstadti and A. stellatus were measured 15.8 20i, 15 , 15.5 and 13.8 years in the Gillan and 18, 19.2, 19.3 , 18.5 and 13.2 year, respectively , This investigation revealed that setting of sturgeon nets had high by catch of other sturgeon species beyond the main catch in the fishing season . It is recommended that for taking better results , this project should bed one with more repetition in different fishing area.
