Integrated shrimp culture (Penaeus indicus) with Chanos chanos in the Homozgan Province, Iran

This study was performed to obtain an optimum ecosystem and reach to higher output in shrimp farms in 4 ponds (a monoculture of Penaeus indicus and 3 bicultural of P. indicus and Chanos chanos), during July to December 1997 in 7 ponds that belong to Said-e-Kish company in Tiab (130 Km east of Bandar Abbas). In July after providing experimental ponds the shrimp were introduced, two months later (in bicultural method) the fish (Chanos chanos) were also introduced (in the rate of 600, 900 and 1200/hectare). For comparing of growth rate of shrimps, a one way variance analysis methods, and to find the difference of observation-Newman Kolies method were used. The consequence showed that the best shrimp production pond was 600 pieces of Chanos chanos in the amount of 2025 Kg/h (with the average weight: 17gr) while in the monoculture was 1420 kg/h (12.3 gr). By considering the increase in production, prices and food consuming the pure profit was 8,295,000 Rs/h in I cultural harvest (600 fish/ha) and in II cultural harvest (900 fish/ha) the pure profit (in comparing with IV monoculture) was 2,373,500 Rs/h, also in Ill culture (1200 fish/ha) the pure profit was 6,975,000 Rs/h.
