Массовые гибели рыб у побережья Крыма как результат климатических аномалий, экосистемных трансформаций и антропогенных воздействий

Data on fish mass mortality cases at the Crimean coasts, including the results of epizootic, clinical, pathoanatomical and other research studies, have been collected and arranged. During the period from 2003 to 2017, 13 mass mortality cases were recorded at the Crimean coasts; 6 of which took place in the Azov Sea, 6 – in the Kerch Strait, and 1 – in the Black Sea. Brief overview of fish kill areas, taxonomic composition of dead fish, number of recorded (dead) fish, as well as the data on causes of fish kill and available information sources, are presented for each case. It is established that fish kill cases at the Crimean coasts have non-infectious aetiology and are not of epizootic nature. It is shown that the most wide-scale kill cases occurred at the Azov shore; moreover, for the last 14 years, the number of such cases has increased in 3 times, and direct damages reached over 100-400 tons per case. Total amount of fish loss at the Azov coast of Crimea during the period from 2003 to 2017 has been estimated at the level of 450-1,100 tons. The primary cause was summer fish kill due to hypoxia. In the Kerch Strait area, the amount of fish mortality cases also increased. From 2003 to 2017, approximately 13.5-19.5 tons of fish were lost due to fish kill in the area, including 12-17 tons lost due to hypothermia. The Black Sea coast of Crimea is not susceptible to fish kill cases; the scarce data on fish kills in those areas could be explained by relatively low fish abundance and biomass. There was a recorded case, when a discarded fish catch was stranded ashore, which created a misleading impression of natural mass mortality case. In total, the increase in number and scale of fish kill cases in the ecosystems of the Azov Sea and Kerch Strait indicates increasing anthropogenic pressure and negative impact of climatic anomalies on the populations of some fish species in this area.
