An attempt was made to assess the sprat recruitment abundance by the surveys with Isaacs-Kidd trawl 1 year ahead of time. Young sprat distributions in September for the years 1980-1984, and the 1982 and 1983 year classes distributions by the seasons were considered. Characteristic peculiarities in the size and weight compositions in the years of concern are given.
