Procedures for estimating expected genetic progress in inbred lines via recurrent intrapopulacional selection.

Objective of study was to provide genetical-statistical procedures that permit estimating expected genetic progress for inbred S1 and S6 lines through recurrent intrapopulacional selection. Two mating schemes involving inbred lines progenies (S1 and S6) and half-sib progenies were used. The statistical procedures, genetic interpretations of progeny variance and covariance, and formulae for predicting expected progress in inbred lines (S1 and S6) via intrapopulacional selection are provided. The formulae of expected gain for the inbred lines are a functions of the genetic covariance between half-sib and selfed (OA 1/2 AO and OA 1 AO) progenies). The theoretical values for the OA 1/2AO/O2A and OA1AO.O2A ratios show that they are influenced by the genetic structure of the populations and are higher than 1.0 when the average frequency of favorable alleles is higher than 0.5.
