Efeitos do ataque de Epinotia aporema (WALSINGHAM, 1914) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) em diferentes períoos de desenvolvimento da soja.

The effects of damage by the budworm Epinotia aporema (Wal singham, 1914) on the development and yield of soybeans were evali:i° ated on late-planted 'UFV-1' soybeans. The following exposure pe riods of l arval attack were establis hed, with the respective proportions of damaged plants at the e nd of each period : ve ge ta tive sta ge (83,57.), flowering (65 , 57.) , reproductive stage (45 , 07.), exposed throughout the cicle (86,77.) , and control (undamaged) . Larval attack during the vegetative stage caused r eductions in plant size and height of the first pod, and an increa se in the number of secondary branches , which compen sated for losses caused by larval attack in the main stem. Desp i te the comparat ively short period of damage during flo wering in relation to the other treatments, yields were lower with budworm damage during flowering , indicating that this is the most critica! stage of soybeans to the attack of the budworm . It is co n cluded that high levels of incidence of E. aporema during the vege ta tive stage and after pod-set do not advers.ely affect s oy bean yiel ds, while 407. - 507. of damaged plants c a.n be tolerated during flower ing without significant reductions in yield.
