Patho-genomics of a Gibberella fujikuroi species complex member
Fusarium proliferatum is a member of the Asian clade of the Fusarium (Gibberella) fujikuroi species complex (FFSC) and is unusual among this group of fungi in that it can cause disease on a broad range of plants, including economically important plants such as asparagus, fig, maize, onion, palm, pine, rice and wheat. This species can also occur in plants without causing disease symptoms. F. proliferatum produces the mycotoxins fumonisins, fusaproliferin, fusarins, fusaric acid, moniliformin and beauvericin as well as the pigment bikaverin. Strain NRRL 62905 was isolated from a sample of maize kernels from the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa USA.
