Genome of the Tarnished Plant Bug, Lygus lineolaris.

The tarnished plant bug (TPB), Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois), has a wide range of distribution in North and South America and is adapted to a wide range of climatic conditions. More than 500 host plant species have been reported across the range of distribution and about 300 host plants support reproduction. TPB is a pest of a wide range of cultivated crops and considered one of the most important pests of cotton in the mid-South region of USA. Piercing and sucking mode of feeding by this species damage cotton fruiting structures and bolls not only due to multiple probing before feeding, but also due to residual digestive enzyme activity after feeding is completed.
