Marine strain that produces unusual pigments.

Bacillus sp. NRRL B-14911 This marine strain was collected at a depth of 10 meters in the Gulf of Mexico. This organism has unusual carotenoid pigments, and its spores may contain enzymes actively involved in oxidation. The organism is found in coastal waters and the spores may be involved in adsorption of trace metals and organic compounds from these environments.
