Mr. Mergen highlights the importance for the United States of the FTAA negotiations with the rest of American countries and outlines the progress achieved in each one of the nine negotiation points. He also presents the trade conditions for agriculture groups' negotiations and the access to markets and subsidies, placing emphasis on the negotiation of agricultural products from Latin American countries. He also explains the United States proposal to the WTO, which contains some regulations related to that organization, particularly on topics such as export subsidies and internal aid.
