Lacandon memory a tribute to a maya people disco compacto
The maya lacandones, known also as hach winik (the true people) have lived for centuries in the tropical jungle of the south of Chiapas, Mexico, the same area where the famous maya culture of the classical period prospered. Presently, the ethnic lacandon is the most diminished indigenous group in the state of Chiapas and one of the scarcest minorities in the world. Al though the jungle was a natural protection for the lacandones and their religion, their history is characterized by external influences. This testimony is a unique anthropological document which captures the words of the elders and the youth in the community of Naha, speaking about the changes in their community and their cultural future.
