Precisión en la comunicación de la localización de recursos de la abeja sin aguijón Scaptotrigona mexicana Guérin (Hymenoptera: Apidae: Meliponini)

Scaptotrigona mexicana foragers were able to communicate to their nestmates the location of a food source located at 50 meters from the hive: when a control feeder was placed in the opposite direction to a training one, the number of recruits was higher in the training than in the control feeders in all the trials. In the angular and distance accuracy experiments, a scattering of bees around the position of the training feeders was seen. Moreover, under the conditions we worked, piloting or communication inside the colony could be the possible recruitment mechanisms for this species and not pheromone deposition as described for other species of Scaptotrigona.
