Comparación de la producción de miel entre abejas europeas, abejas africanizadas, y los híbridos F1 y F2 (Hymenoptera: Apidae), en un ambiente tropical
The honey production of four genetic lines of Apis mellifera L. (European, Africanized and their hybrids F1 and F2) was compared in a tropical environment inhabited by Africanized honeybees, using commercial colonies and queens mated naturally. Three colonies of each genetic line were divided into four apiaries, separated by 500 meters in between. During March, May and June, three harvests of honey were obtained and weighed. In addition, the infestation percentage of Varroa jacobsoni (Oudemans) was estimated in adult bees and the number of frames with brood and honey in the brood chamber was counted. Mean honey harvested per European colony was lower, and the percentage of V. jacobsoni in adult bees was higher as compared with Africanized and hybrid colonies. To correct the effect of this differential infestation upon honey production among genetic lines, regression models were obtained for each of them that related infestation with production. A very small increase in honey production of European honeybees was estimated in equal conditions of mite infestation. This correction did not affect the conclusion that European honeybees produced less honey than the other genetic lines.
