Viabilidade económica de um projeto para o aproveitamento da mandioca na micro-regiao cacaueira da Bahia, Brasil

There is a lack of studies which analyse the economic sensibility of producing yucca for exportation and the viability of the formation of yucca production cooperatives; this study directs itself to these issues. The general objective was to study some socio-economic factors which characterize yucca production and to make suggestions which could contribute to the solution of the cultivation problems. A census of producers in the area was done to identify the sampling universe; 61 yucca producing farmers were randomly selected for this population. Primary data were obtained by personal interviews and secondary data were obtained from publications of factories producing equipment. Results: 82% of the farmers indicated favorable opinions toward a cooperative organization. The “chi” square test indicated that as much favorable opinion varied with longer size. It explains 20% of the dependency between variables. Yucca crop has in the area favorable conditions for its cultivation although the yield are low due by primitive levels of technology used.
