Soil fertility management in Kenyan coffee

This paper discusses the activities of the Coffee Research Foundation in Kenya, which involves studies on the nutrient requirements of coffee trees, to maintain and improve high coffee yields and quantity. The types, application rates and application schedules of inorganic fertilizers, alternative sources of nutrients such as organic residues and green manures, farming systems (e.g., intercropping), and soil management practices (e.g., shading), are given much attention to sustain soil fertility, conserve soil nutrients and achieve a sustainable farming system.
