The rational management of soils and sustainability of irrigated coffee
Coffee production in the Araguari region, Brazil, varies mainly with differences in soil properties such as structure, clay content, compaction, biological activity, drainage conditions and available soil water. Irrigation requirements in red yellowlatosols, dark red latosols, dusky red latosols, eutrophic dark red latosols, red yellow podzolic soils, latosolic Cambisols and eutrophic Cambisols in relation to soil properties are discussed. The effects of urea, P and K fertilizers, mechanical tillage or no tillage and application of herbicides on coffee production are assessed.
