High density coffee. Spacings and care of crop management

Notes are given on the production of high density coffee in Parana, Brazil. Strategies for coffee production are outlined, with reference to production per plant and per area, models of high and low density, selection of spacing, altitude, varieties, plant nutrition, edaphoclimatic conditions, and level of technology and investment. Methods for adjusting plant density are outlined. A strategy for high density tillage is described, including high density as the basis of technological models, increasing productivity, soil improvement, efficiency of nutrient uptake, diversification, rapid recovery of productivity after frost, and efficiency of use of labour. Specific criteria for high density crops are also given, including manual labour, harvest, pestcontrol and nutrition.
