Effect of some plant extracts on mobility, mortality, egg hatching and pathogenicity of Meloidogyne exigua from coffee plants

Methanolic and aqueous extracts from Cajanus cajan, Crotalaria juncea, Ficus elastica, Ruta graveolens, Stylosanthes guianensis, Leucaena leucocephala, Punica granatum, Allium cepa, Allium sativum, Brachiaria decumbens, Catharanthus roseus, and Tagetes minuta were evaluated for toxicity to M. exigua. All extracts were toxic to M. exigua in in vitro assays with eggs and second-stage nematode juveniles. Extracts from A. cepa and R. graveolens, which were most toxic, were evaluated in an in vivo assay using six-month-old coffee plants inoculated with M. exigua eggs. The extracts reduced gall number without any toxic effect on coffee plants.
