The effect of the number of shoots on the growth of coffee plants (Coffea canephora, Pierre ex Froehner) over a period of two years

The effects of the number of shoots/plant on bud height and diameter, the number of branches with buds, and crown diameter were investigated in 2 trials (in 1996 and 1997) at a coffee plantation in Cuba. The plants were planted in 1990 on brown sialic soil, at an altitude of 200 m and a density of 1666 plants/ha. In both trials, plants with 6-7 shoots had a smaller number of branches with buds and a smaller crown and bud diameter than those with 3-5 shoots.
